Sol-US' Afghanistan war started with Bush and still continues with the Trump unveiling new Afghanistan policy. US policy towards Afghanistan changes in following ways
1.Bush started war in Afghanistan in 2001 after 9/11 to attack Taliban who were at the realm at that time
2.There strategy suffers after US started war in Iraq as well in 2003-thus effecting resources attention towards Afghanistan
3.2005-Taliban gathered themselves, got men and money and external support--and insurgency again increases
4.2009-Obama increases troops in Afghanistan and set to start withdrawal in 2011 and to be completed by 2014
5.But due to lack of Afghan's Army to fight taliban, and not realising the ground reality that Taliban still controls major territory in Afghanistan--This strategy coudnt yield results
6.Now Trump has given new Afghanistan policy with emphasis restricting on fighting terrorism and not on building nation, increasing troops in Afghanistan, and no deadline set for withdrawal.
7.Such strategy with no concentration on national building(though it should be by afghan people themselves), will not remove the basic source of insurgency i.e lack of development. Thus threat to US would continues.
8 Also US has to work either wirh Taliban if they continue to hold control in the region or have to create environment so that government can take control in Taliban areas.
Role India can play in Afghanistan
1.Continue capacity building of Afghanistan army by training and arms
2.Providing Health and Education to people so that Human Capital can be developed whoch would help Afghanistan to rise on its on legs
3.Help create an environment where democratic process can flourished for eg-as India helped building parliament building of Afghanistan. Simillarly should encourage talk between various faction of government
4.Engaging with other power in the region so that Afghans and India's interest dont get undermine.
A stable Afghanistan is beneficial for India as well aa for US. So building Afghanistan as a society should be the priority for both of us.
