Answer of the day-solid Waste Management

Q-In the background of solid waste management rules passed by the government, What are issues related with solid waste.?What are the problem in the implementation of solid waste rules? (12.5 marks)

Sol- Solid waste management is the process of managing solid waste to reduce its illeffect in the society. With increasing solid waste as urbanization is increasing, it's management has not been kept up the pace. In this regard, government notified solid waste management rules, 2016 which defines the responsibility of management

Issue of solid waste

1.If waste is not managed well, it leads to the ground water pollution--thus effecting human health
2.Unmanaged solid waste is the breeding ground of bacteria and flies---thus spread disease in the area
3.digestion of plastic in waste by cattle---choking and even death of cattle.
4 .making place dirty----thus reducing tourism of the area
5.child health----as many ragpickers involved are child and it effect their health and rights

Problem in the implementation of solid waste rules

1.Lack of scientific segregation of waste at source----which restrict it's processing in scientific way.
2.General lack of awareness among society wrt benefit of solid waste management
3.Lack of capacity of municipal bodies in managing waste scientifically
4.less recognition of need and benefit of converting waste into power. Consequently lack of infrastructure for such exercise.
5.Not much concentrating on local bodies under swaach bharat programmes and restricting just on citizen behavior.

With proper implementation of rules by capacity building of municipal bodies, creating infrastructure of conversion of waste to power, making collection as a formal exercise, we can actually achieve the objective of swaach bharat esp in urban area.
